Diwali Vacation 2026: Plan a Family Trip to Statue of Unity with Kids
Gujarat schools get a long break this year. The state's Diwali vacation 2026 runs from 5 to 25 November, which is 21 days, and the second term starts on 26 November. That is a lot of time for a family trip, and the Statue of Unity at Ekta Nagar is an easy one to plan with children.
Okay so the dates come from the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board calendar, plus there’s also a Directorate of Primary Education circular dated 26 October 2026, which was reported in the news. But the vacation dates can change a bit between different schools and boards so it’s worth checking with your child’s school, before you go ahead and plan anything. Also, Diwali is on Sunday, 8 November 2026 , based on the Gujarat holiday list.
🪔 Why Choose Statue of Unity for a Diwali Vacation?
It is close for many Gujarat families. Vadodara is about 90 km away, Surat about 175 km and Ahmedabad about 210 km, going by the official Ekta Nagar travel information. The complex also has plenty for kids that isn't just a monument, from gardens to a dinosaur trail.
There is a timely bonus too. Bharat Parv at Ekta Nagar is listed to run until 15 November, with state pavilions, food and crafts. Check the latest details before you plan around it.
👧 Best Places to Visit with Kids
Check that each attraction is open on your date before you go. The times below are the durations shown on our ticket pages. There are many more attractions for visitors, and the ones listed here are only suggestions. Book your Statue of Unity tickets in advance and add more attractions to your trip, so the kids always have something new to look forward to.
1. Statue of Unity and Viewing Gallery
Start here. Kids enjoy the lift ride and the view of the Narmada River and the dam. Plan about 2 hours for the statue and gallery.
2. Jungle Safari
A guided ride through a forest area with animals, listed at about 2 hours. It is often the favourite for children, so book it early in the day.
3. Valley of Flowers
A gentle garden walk of about an hour. It is listed as free, and it suits tired legs after the bigger attractions.
4. Cactus & Butterfly Garden
About an hour with cactus varieties and butterflies. It works well for younger kids and for photos.
5. Maze Garden
A short hedge maze, about an hour. Children like finding their way, and parents get a rest.
6. Ekta Nursery
A quieter botanical stop of about 45 minutes. Good for a break from crowds, and it has a tribal cafe for a meal.
7. Children's Nutrition Park
A play-and-learn park with healthy-food activities and playful exhibits, listed at about 2 hours. It is one of the most child-focused stops here.
8. Dino Trail and Pets Zone
The Dino Trail has life-size dinosaur models, and the Pets Zone has friendly animals. Each takes about an hour, and both suit younger children.
🗓️ How Many Days Do You Need?
For a family with kids, two days with one night is comfortable. One day can work, but you will be choosing carefully and moving fast.
A simple plan: spend day one on the statue, the Viewing Gallery and a garden, then return for the evening Glow Garden or the projection mapping show, which our site lists at 7:30 PM daily. Keep day two for the Jungle Safari and the kid-friendly stops like the Children's Nutrition Park and the Dino Trail. Our Statue of Unity 2-day Packageshows how to fit these in.
Parents can enjoy the Viewing Gallery, a riverfront walk and shopping at Ekta Mall. If walking is hard for small kids or grandparents, e-rickshaw and golf cart services are listed on our ticket page.
🏨 Where to Stay with Family
Pick a stay close to the complex. Kids get tired, and a short ride back makes the evening easier. When you compare options, think about room size for your group, meals, distance from the attractions and how you will travel each day.
Diwali dates fill up fast, so book early. Our site lists stays including a tent resort, a hotel and a home stay. You can compare them on our hotels near Statue of Unity page. Availability changes by date, so confirm before you pay.
🚗 How to Reach Ekta Nagar with Kids
By road, expect roughly two hours from Vadodara, a little over three hours from Surat and four hours or more from Ahmedabad, on a normal day. Holiday traffic will add to that. By train, Ekta Nagar railway station is about 7 km from the statue.
Once you are there, the official information says that private vehicles are not allowed in the core attraction zone. Free electric buses connect main sights and it feels like you just do that, not much choice. Try to leave early , plan snack stops and toilet breaks. Also keep some water with you at all times, because you know how it goes.
School holidays run from 5 to 25 November, so expect more families , especially on weekends and around Diwali. We do not have crowd figures, so in that case weekdays and morning slots are the safer options.
🎟️ Booking and Budget Planning
Instead of guessing a total, add up five things: tickets for each attraction, your stay, food, local transport, and the journey to Ekta Nagar. Get current prices from the booking pages and multiply by the number of adults and children.
Then compare two ways to buy. If you only want two or three attractions, individual tickets may be enough. If you also need a room, look at a package. Our family tour packages guide explains what to compare. For the kids' stops, you can book the Children's Nutrition Park directly.
